The homeowner had paid to have their roof cleaned. What they got back was a roof that needed replacing.

The clean had stripped the protective layer off every tile and damaged the felt underneath. Once that protection is gone it does not come back — and a tile that can no longer shed water the way it was made to is a tile on borrowed time.

A job bought to extend the life of the roof had taken years off it instead.

Why a roof clean can do this

Concrete tiles leave the factory with a protective coating on the surface. Pressure washing takes that coating off, leaving the tile porous — so it holds water, and moss comes back faster than it did before. Water driven up under the tiles at pressure does the rest, soaking and tearing the felt beneath, which is the layer that catches anything the tiles let past.

On this roof both had happened. There was no patching back to a sound roof: the covering and the layer under it had both been compromised.

The work carried out

DMD were brought in by a builder they work with regularly. The customer was happy with the price, and the chimney stack came down as part of it at no extra cost.

  • Full strip and re-cover of the roof
  • Chimney stack taken down — included in the price, not charged as an extra
  • Scaffolding arranged and erected by DMD
  • All waste removal organised and taken away
  • All labour carried out by DMD's own team

The result

A sound roof, a stack gone that was never going to be any use again, and one contractor handling the scaffold, the waste and the work rather than three to chase. The customer paid once, for a roof that will now do its job.
