Shared Chimney Removal & Roofline Renewal in Penllergaer

  • Whole-house renovation
  • Shared chimney removed
  • Bonding gutters both sides
  • Westerland slate

This one came to DMD through the builder running the project on a property in Penllergaer. The house was undergoing a full renovation, and the roof, the old shared chimney and the whole roofline were handed over to DMD to sort out as part of the works.

It's also the kind of referral that speaks volumes: builders pass roofing work to the firms they know won't hold the rest of the job up.

The complication

The chimney stack was coming down as part of the works — but it wasn't a stack that belonged to one house.

The chimney was shared with the house next door, sitting on the party line between the two roofs.

That changes the job. Only one half of the stack could come down, and the neighbouring property had to be left sound and weathertight throughout — not something to be worked out halfway up a ladder. With the stack gone, the two roofs then met directly along the party line, so bonding gutters were fitted to either side to form a clean, weathered junction between the two properties.

The work carried out

  • Shared chimney stack taken down, neighbouring property kept weathertight
  • Bonding gutters fitted to either side along the party line
  • Roof re-covered in Westerland fibre cement slate
  • New UPVC fascias and guttering throughout
  • Scaffolding, skips and materials all arranged by DMD

The result

Roof, roofline and the old shared stack all dealt with in one go, leaving nothing outstanding up there for the rest of the renovation to work around. The neighbours got a tidy, properly weathered junction out of it without lifting a finger.

Renovating? The roof is the one job worth doing first — everything you spend below it depends on staying dry. We'll survey what you've got and put the options in writing.

“We couldn't be happier with the work Dan and his team has done. They worked incredibly hard from start to finish, were professional, reliable, and took real pride in their work.

“Nothing was too much trouble, and they made sure everything was completed to a really high standard. We'd happily recommend them to anyone looking for a hardworking, trustworthy, and professional roofer. Excellent job from start to finish!
